Forty-one years ago Les, then editor of Moody Press, and Glenn Arnold, journalism professor at Moody Bible Institute, decided to initiate a writing seminar. Initially a two-week course with college credit, it eventually morphed into a three-day conference.
Lin Johnson, left, then a faculty member, took over and helped move it to Wheaton College’s Billy Graham Center, where God has used it mightily in the lives of writers. Jane Rubietta, right, is Lin’s administrative aide. This picture was taken at the closing banquet, where Dr. Dennis Hensley served as speaker.
Bill and Pam Farrell challenged writers as keynote speakers. Authors of many books on marriage issues, they also led workshops on writing. Les met with writers one-on-one and led three workshops on writing.
The next writers’ conference Les will attend is the ACFW conference in St. Louis, Mo, held September 25-27. He considers this conference a “must attend event” for everyone serious about writing fiction.
